Nine killed when business jet crashes near homes in Palm Beach, Florida
All nine people aboard a business jet died when it crashed into a Florida neighborhood near a busy roadway on Sunday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. The aircraft, identified by CBS News as a Learjet, had departed Austin, Texas, and was headed to the Bahamas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
On Monday, NTSB member Tom Chapman said evidence at the crash site indicates the aircraft was breaking up before impact and that debris could be found far from the site. BBC reported the NTSB also believes weather could have been a factor but that it is too early to determine the cause. CBS News reported the pilot said "we're managing the ice" before a "Mayday" call. BBC reported the dead include a tech entrepreneur and his young family, as well as the 20-year-old copilot.
A jet bound from Austin to the Bahamas crashed in Palm Beach, killing all nine on board, and NTSB says it appears to have been breaking up before impact.
