Justice Department sues over possible blocking of Alaska Senate certification
The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit that could prevent certification of Alaska's Senate election if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses to Democrat Mary Peltola. The government argues that two candidates named Dan Sullivan on the ballot could confuse voters.
President Trump said he ordered the suit. PBS NewsHour describes the second Dan Sullivan as a retired schoolteacher whom Republicans accuse of being a Democratic plant meant to siphon away votes. The case comes as the battle for control of the Senate is also being fought in court, 11 days before the midterm elections.
The DOJ is suing to potentially block certification of Alaska's Senate race if the Republican incumbent loses, citing two candidates with the same name.
